With thanks to South Dublin County Council and especially the Heritage Officer, Rosaleen Dwyer, we are delighted to see the Biodiversity report on St. Finian’s medieval church & graveyard from JBA Consulting. 60 plant species were recorded at the site! The report summary also noted:
- In addition to the 60 plant species on site, 14 pollinator species were recorded.
- The composition of floral species on site ensures that there are at least a few plants flowering from February to November at any one time. This ensures there is a food source for pollinators for most of the year.
- The site provides a good variety of habitats for invertebrates overall.
- No potential bat roosts were recorded; however, the site provides important foraging habitat for bats.
- Seven bird species were recorded on site
Society for Old Lucan are working with SDCC to implement the additional findings to increase the biodiversity of this already rich site.
