Join us at a free session to develop the skills to unlock details in this important piece of local history and to learn more about the lives of the Vesey family and others in Lucan in the early 1700s.
SOL followers may recall the account ledger we identified in a collection in Columbia University, New York in recent years. The author is Agmondisham Vesey the elder – father of the Agmondisham Vesey who later built the current Lucan House.
The handwritten account book includes details of rents received and expenses paid out in the early 1700s. SOL arranged for each page to be photographed and now we want to invite you to unlock the information within!

This free event is hosted by Society for Old Lucan with sincere thanks to our speaker Nicola Kelly Archivist OPW-Maynooth University Archive and Research Centre, who will share her expertise with practical tips on reading and transcribing this significant document.
No previous experience is required and a keen interest in continuing to work on the document is encouraged.

We are currently looking for our followers to get involved in this live history project. Using the online pages of the account book we are looking for volunteers to take on the task on transcribing the text on the digital image. No prior experience is required and you can take on one page, or many. We will build together all the transcribed pages to create one master document for use by historians.
