A survey of Lucan from 1680! Can you help us recognise anything?

In 2021, soon after Covid restrictions lifted, I [HF] visited the National Library to access some of the Vesey Papers in the Manuscript room. I was extremely excited to find the 1699 map of Lucan, but another fascinating document was in the bundle, namely:

An accompt of the survey of the lands of Lucan according to the meares and bounds [measurement & boundary limits] showed Mr. Abraham Carter.

No map accompanied the survey, to my great disappointment, but I could see that the survey description of the buildings alone were fascinating.

Aoife Tierney is now a member of the SOL Committee and previously carried out sterling work in transcribing the Vesey document. She volunteered to transcribe the document for us and is hoping to hear ideas or information linked to the different entries. This covers most of the old village of Lucan.

Below you can see an image of the first page of the survey:

An old manuscript detailing a survey of land in Lecan, listing various locations and parcels along with their respective owners and values.

The penmanship, although beautiful, is a bit of a challenge to read, so we have Aoife to thank again for her clear transcription of the document. Please give us your feedback on this to oldlucan@gmail.com or drop a comment below!
